Description: My wife recently brought home a Frog and Toad book from our library for our son to read. I recognized it instantly since I had a couple of Frog and Toad Book and Records when I was little. The recorded narration was by Arnold Lobel. He had a very fun way of reading the characters that I can still remember today. Arnold would read Frog, with an up-beat happy tone, and read Toad as more of an Eore. I asked my son if I could read the book to him and we had a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to when he is able to read them to me, which should be in a just a few more years.
These stories are geared towards young first time readers with very short concise sentences. There are at least four books that I know of with each one containing five short stories. Each story revolves around two friends, and often include important social lessons, such as how you treat you friends, being thoughtful of others, and sharing with others. I can say so far that the stories are still age appropriate and not out of date in accordance with modern children's stories. The artwork is very charming, with the two anthropomorphic amphibians living a cozy Victorian ideal. They are often depicted sipping tea in front of the fire eating cookies, and taking the walks around the country side. If you have a young child who is looking for some story time with mom and dad, I highly recommend Frog and Toad.
Here are Frog and Toad titles that I'm aware of....
